Adgustment in Later Life Centering around the Activity


Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the actual conditions of activity of the elderly in Korea and to analyze the level of adjustment of the aged with the focus on activity in order to secure results which are needed in desirable adjustment of the elderly.
To obtain this purpose, review of literature on definitions of adjustment in later life and relative studies were performed.
The results obtained through these procedures are as follows ; First, familiar activity of interviewees is frequent in living together family, friend, neighborhood, separate family and relatives in the order named. And the time of activity per unit is most frequent for 2-3hours. The degree of activity through group and personal activity is very low, specially in group activity.
Second, the environmental variables such as sex, age, level of education and health turned out to have important effects on the degree of activity.
Third, the greater the degree of activity is, the higher the level of all adjustment is. And it is shown that familiar activity influences personal and family adjustment while familiar and group activity have effects on social and general adjustment.
On the basis of the results mentioned above, the drawn conclusion is as follows : the more activities one takes the higher adjustment level are. Speciallyfamiliar and group activity have great effects on adjustment in later life, while actual conditions of activity of the elderly in Korea are very scanty.
